Coach Trip to Cumbria: Warwick Bridge to Hutton in the Forest

Sunday 20th August 2017

Organiser: Ian Wells

High Head Castle before consolidation works

High Head Castle before recent consolidation works

The coach departed from Bewick Street, Newcastle upon Tyne at 8:00 am. At Warwick Bridge we visited the Old Corn Mill, guided by Graham Bell, director of the North of England Civic Trust. Across the road we enjoyed Our Lady and St Wilfrid by Pugin. This small Roman Catholic Church has recently undergone major restoration works. Refreshments were served.

A short ride away is the gloriously ruinous, Palladian, Highhead Castle which has been rescued by the Terry Family. The early part of the afternoon was spent at Hutton-in-the-Forest.

We then took in the exterior of the newly completed Sunbeams Music Trust, near Penrith, and finished the day at Sarah Losh's Church at Wreay. This has a recently opened visitor centre and some restoration work has taken place. The coach returned to Bewick Street for 7:30 pm.
